"Be Ek Buddhi"
Dada Sarvabodhananda
In early 1978 I went to visit Baba in the jail (in Patna, India). (Baba
graced me to visit him twice within two weeks. This Ek Buddhi story was
told
by Baba on the second visit.}When I left U.S. for India I had a hope to
meet Baba alone. I wanted to ask Baba some advice or messages that I could
share with the margiis and with people in general.
That time there were a lot of margiis and acaryas from all over the world
visiting Baba. So we were all divided into smaller groups. That day I was
with 10 other Dadas. We were the last group to see Baba. Mentally I
surrendered my desire to Baba knowing that it will be very difficult to
talk
to Him alone. When we entered Baba's cell Baba received us with so much
love
and
affection. He first gave each one of us a prasad in the form of a rock
candy. Lovingly Baba enquired our name and posting. Then Baba begun by
asking that if there are several fishes in the pond, what is the proper
verb
to use - "is" or "are"?. All of us were silent. Baba continued by saying
that
if there are several fishes but of only one kind, "is" is use, if they are
of different kinds, "are" is use.
Then Baba begun telling stories. He said that in one village there were
several ponds. In the biggest pond many fishes live. There
were particularly three leaders of fishes: Sahasta Buddhi (a fish with a
thousand mind), Shata Buddhi (a fish with hundred mind), and Ek Buddhi (a
fish with one mind). So one day all the fishermen of the village had
meeting
and decided to catch all the fishes in the pond the next day. The wife of
Sahasta
Buddhi asked her husband. My dear husband what shall we do? Sahasta B
answered, my dear wife, don't you worry. You know, I got a thousand mind,
I know a thousand ways to evade them. We will be safe.
The wife of Shata Buddhi also came to her husband. "My dear husband what
shall we do (here Baba changed His voice a bit different)? My dear wife, I
got a hundred mind. I know a thousand tricks. Please don't worry. We will
be
safe". We were so glued watching every ex[pression of Baba - the movements
of His fingers, eyes, head, etc. I felt His every expression was
transporting me to another realms of bliss. It was so wonderful.
Similarly Ek Buddhi's wife came to him. (Here also Baba changed His voice)
My dear husband what shall we do? My dear wife, you know, I got only one
mind therefore I know only one way. Let us leave this place right away. So
they gather their folks and moved to another pond. Next day morning the
fishermen laid their nets and caught all. Ek Buddhi watching from a nearby
pond called his wife. My dear wife look! All are hanging in the net
including Sahasta and Shata buddhis. You know why we are free? We are free
because I have only one mind therefore we are free.
We were all so captivated by Baba and His story. We were all transfixed
but
having a sweet smile on our faces. Suddenly Baba's vibration became more
serious. Baba pointed his finger to Dada Kalyaneshvaranandaji and said,
and
you my boy what are you? Dada for a sec. closed his eyes (must have taken
his gurumantra) and said, Ek buddhi Baba. Baba became suddenly so happy
with
right fist pounding on the air and shouting, yes, be ek buddhi, just have
one mind, just do, be ek buddhi, just have one mind, just do. Baba keep
repeating the same phrases again and again pounding his fist on the air
and
he was bouncing seated on his bed. The vibration became so intense that I
felt my hairs stood still.
Then Baba continued, yes, if you want to realize Paramapurusa, if you want
to achieve your cherish goal in life, if you want to be successful, then
you
have to be Ek buddhi, you have to be one pointed, without firm
determination
one cannot attain God realization. Like an archer, in order to hit the
ball's eye of one's target, the mind has to become one with the target.
Only
then one can hit the ball's eye of the target.
Then Baba's vibration became light. Baba smiled and we felt so happy.
