ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

The Timpuyog People’s Movement Incorporated (TPMI), a non-government, non-sectarian, not-for-profit socio-political-cultural movement is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission with registration number CN200402098. It is one of the numerous ‘samajas’ or society building organizations that is a confederate of the Ang KaSaMa Inc. (Ang Katipunan ng mga Samahang Maharlika), a confederation of regional cooperative organizations, federations, NGO’s, sectoral and multi-sectoral  people’s organizations, civic organizations, foundations that represent labor, farmers, fisher folks, urban poor, indigenous cultural communities, elderly and senior citizens, handicapped, women, youth, students, teachers, athletes, artists, craftsmen, overseas workers and other professions collectively coordinated to uphold and advance the principles of radical morality, self-reliance, cooperatives, cultural empowerment, the Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT) and Neo-Humanism.

Inspired by the ideals and principles of Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT) and Neo-Humanism, the concerted effort of a few individuals gathered like-minded folks in the Ilocos region and established the then Kailian Samaj or “the society for our provincemate” which is now referred as the Timpuyog People’s Movement Incorporated. The first regional assembly was successfully held in Shalom Beach House in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte on November 28-30, 2003. It formed its regional organizational structure and advisory committee to represent the provinces of Region I. 

The Vision, Mission, Program of Action, Core Values and Three-Year Strategic Plan were made on February 6-8, 2004. Consequently, its Securities and Exchange Commission license was issued on February 11, 2004.

As one of its priorities, the Timpuyog People’s Movement Incorporated is actively engaged in the mobilization of socially empowered individuals in the formation of numerous advocacy groups to effectively advance people’s development agenda in the province of Ilocos Norte. One of its particular accomplishments was the formation of a committed group of student leaders wanting to establish a province-wide student-youth movement which would be called the Gameng-Maharlika Student-Youth Organization (GMSYO). On February 29, 2004, the GMSYO was launched in a whole day seminar on “Cultural Rebuilding and National Regeneration” attended by 104 student leaders in the province. It was held at the Palazzo De Laoag Hotel and Restaurant.

VISION

The Timpuyog People’s Movement, Inc. (TPMI) is a distinguished prime mover organization in the Ilocos Region establishing culturally based self-reliant communities and a catalyst in organizing and mobilizing advocacy groups, which advance the effective resolution of people’s development agenda geared in the advancement of a truly progressive Maharlikan society.

MISSION

The TPMI is organized to develop and disseminate programs to enhance the well being of the local people. It seeks to organize people with common interests by empowering cultural minorities, poor communities, and neglected sectors of the society. It also aims to provide local people with social education and training that will equip them with necessary attitudes and relevant skills to be economically self-reliant. It further endeavors to nurture the unique cultural identity of local communities by creating avenues for its progressive expression and by providing opportunities that will expand their access to clean drinking water, nutritious food, decent jobs, clothing, and shelter, and quality education and medical services. Guided by the principles of Neo-Humanism and the Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT), it strives to deepen the knowledge and commitment of the local people in the recognition and respect for cultural and religious diversity, protection and preservation of the environment, realization of the principles of local self-reliance, promotion of human rights, and advancement of spiritual and moral leadership.

CORE VALUES

SOCIAL EQUALITY… Human beings should be accorded the same value, dignity and respect as any other regardless of social status, education, gender, belief and faith.

TOLERANCE FOR DIVERSITY AND HETEROGENEITY … recognizes the need to respect the belief, views, opinions and ideas of others.

UNIVERSALISM…everyone is interconnected. All have a relationship with everything regardless of race, creed, religion, nationality and color. This universalism includes the obligation to respect and recognize as well protect the animate and inanimate world right to exist.

LOVE ONE’S CULTURE AND LANGUANGE…recognizing that our culture is our strength, it is birthright of each and every human being to freely express its culture and language progressively. It is the fundamental duty of everyone to protect and promote its own unique culture and language.

COMPASSION… we must extend the radius of our compassion beyond humans, hence, we must recognize that plans and animals are part and parcel of the cycle of life. Its protection and development is our primordial obligation.

SERVANTHOOD…encourages the willingness to sacrifice one’s needs for those of others.

RATIONALITY… reason and conscience is the final filter in the determination of truth.

SPIRITUAL MORALITY…the inner import of social progress must always start from the practice of spiritual morality.

SELF-REALIZATION… self-consciousness is the primary prerequisite to individual and social transformation.

COORDINATED COOPERATION…interdependence is imperative to achieve a progressive universal goal.

HARMONY AND BALANCE…recognizes the need to foster a dynamic balance between the personal and the social to ensure the transformative growth of the individual and the collective.

LOVE FOR THE SUPREME…the Supreme Father is the ultimate shelter and the only goal of life, hence, the cultivation of one’s devotion for the Supreme Father is a must.

PROGRAM OF ACTION

  1. Strengthen and continuously improve the organization’s structure and membership by:
    1. Initiating creative strategies that will reinforce its respective committees.
    2. Intensifying periodic education on the vision, mission, core values, ideologies, and principles of the organization through study and skills circles, self-transformation classes and retreats.
    3. Conduct regular trainings on skills needed on community development and organizing, advocacy making, and cooperative implementation.
  2. Educate and assist the local people in the formation of local movements and advocacy groups (student-youth, teachers, environment, cultural minority and progressive media group) that will lobby and monitor the resolution and effective dissemination of people development programs.
  3. Assist in providing wider opportunities for neglected communities by delivering basic services.
  4. Create a culturally based self-reliant community by:
    1. Providing a culturally based early childhood education
    2. Facilitating in conducting relevant training needed by the members of the society that will lead to the establishment of a sustainable cooperative that will augment their purchasing power.
    3. Promoting the use of scientific and progressive traditional health care practices of the local community.
  5. Promote the local cultural heritage and language through cultural communication campaign.
  6. Form or launch advocacy groups and movements with all sectors of the society in the advancement of the concerns on environment, religious diversity, and human rights.
  7. Establish strategic alliances and multi-sectoral partnerships for good governance and sustainable development.
  8. Initiate and assist in the formation of interfaith discussions to advance tolerance on religious diversity.
  9. To conceptualize and implement budget sourcing plans.
  10. To utilize multi-media to advance the numerous programs of the organization.
